Passenger restraint system error popped up after adjusting the seat, now it won't go away

Moved the passenger seat all the way forward last weekend to fit a big box in the back of my 2015 X3 and ever since then I've had a persistent passenger restraint system malfunction warning on the iDrive that I can't clear with a regular OBD scanner I borrow from a friend. The airbag light isn't on the dash, just the warning on the screen, and from what I've been reading this usually points to the seat occupancy sensor mat or the wiring connector under the seat getting disturbed when the seat was moved. I checked the yellow connector underneath and reseated it a couple of times, even sprayed a tiny bit of contact cleaner in case there was corrosion, but the warning is still there stubbornly refusing to reset. I'm mainly worried because I'm told the passenger airbag might not deploy if someone's sitting there while this fault is active, and my wife already refuses to ride in the car until it's sorted which is its own problem. Found https:bmw-garage.ae while trying to figure out whether this needs an actual BMW diagnostic tool to reset or if the sensor mat itself has probably failed and needs replacing, since the car is almost ten years old and these mats are known to fail from the foam degrading underneath. Anyone had this exact warning and can tell me if it was just a simple reset with ISTA or if the sensor pad replacement was unavoidable.
