S-Tronic stuck in neutral while driving, nearly caused an accident

I was merging onto the E311 near Mirdif yesterday evening and without any warning the car just revved like it popped into neutral, I had to coast across three lanes with cars honking at me to reach the shoulder, absolutely terrifying experience. Turned the engine off for a few minutes, started it back up and it drove home fine which almost makes it worse because now I don't know if I can trust it. My brother in law is telling me to just sell the car as is but I've put so much into this A5 already with the timing chain and suspension work last year. Found a website called auditransmissionrepair.ae while searching for similar stories and apparently the mechatronic failures on these can be intermittent before they completely give out. Has anyone else had their gearbox randomly disengage like that and was it repairable or did the whole unit need replacing?
